Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I change placements every 6 months to a new team where I spend time getting trained and working on different software tasks that they set me. These tasks are either actual work for the business or tasks to aid my understanding of software.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
Since I move placements often and each placement is different, I am able to gain new experiences and work on different projects.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have never had experience in programming in high school or college. I have been given the opportunity to continue learning programming whilst still contributing towards the team that I am currently working in.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
All the apprentices are properly looked after. Any concerns regarding wellbeing or placement issues can be raised to my head skills coach who can help fix the issue.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
Apprentices have the ability to provide feedback about the university and all our concerns have been taken into account. There is also a lot of support with diploma work where I can easily ask questions and get guidance if I need it.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
It helps me understand the fundamentals of software engineering which I am able to use when I am working within my placements.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
There are events such as the Women in Engineering event. However There should be more events available for apprentices.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
Yes
Why?
There are a lot of opportunities within the business that you can take part in. There is also a lot of support around you, especially when it comes to diploma work and placements. Overall you are getting educated whilst gaining experience.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
Show how passionate you are about what you are applying for. I have not had prior experience in software but because I was able to show my interest in software engineering during my interviews, I was able to get a place in the apprenticeship scheme.
