Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
Varies depending on the placement that i was in. Typically i am either designing algorithms for code or writing test scripts that test code written by other engineers. I am currently using the Python language but have also used C++ and C#
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I really enjoy my programme, the work can be varied and is always interesting therefore boredom isnt a factor. The team that i work with is extremely supportive and are always available to lend a hand if required.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have learnt to manage my time as effectively as possible because tasks are always ongoing and there is always something else that needs to get done; i have also had to learn to be independent and try to problem solve by myself rather than running to my line manager whenever i have an issue.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The programme is very well organised. throughout the apprenticeship we have 2 days a week at university and half a day to do any work related to the Level 4 Diploma; therefore we have 2.5 days to do work in term time but still work full time during university holidays. The skills coaches are very helpful when it comes to the diploma side.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
Support wise i cannot fault my employer. i have been diagnosed with autism recently and they have been nothing but supportive; any extra requirements that i may have are provided (so long as they are reasonable) and inclusive learning is an integral part of our 12 week reviews.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
In terms of university, we have to get most of our support from the university themselves due to the fact that my employer does not run the course; however we can go to the early careers team whenever we have issues with the university that need to be dealt with. in terms of the Diploma, the company couldn't be more supportive.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
The qualification (degree) is extremely advantageous towards the job role because it provides us with all of the basics required for the job role and often provides the opportunity to improve our work based on what we have learnt.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
There are multiple events offered by the company; for example there is a pay day social event organised every month so that employees have areas to socialise. there have also been some sporting events (such as a five-a-side football tournament) that have been organised by other apprentices.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
Yes
Why?
The company offers so many benefits (employee assistance programme, ability to work from home if required, inclusive support) as well as an excellent salary that i would recommend them to anyone. some apprenticeships pay minimum wage despite the fact that they are paying you to go to university, BAE Systems offers a much better salary than that
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
Ensure that you are clear and concise in your application form and check it multiple times before submission; make sure that you have answered the questions fully for what they are actually asking, not what you think they are asking
