Software Engineer Review

The role involved building new software or further developing current software alongside the team you've been place in. The day would start with a stand-up before we get to work. We would have a sprint planning every two weeks where we decide on which tasks we will tackle each day for the next two weeks before having another sprint planning.

I had a bit of responsibility. Most of the time I was as responsible as my other team members for the software development. However, I was solely responsible for the planning and development of a brand new project after I accumulated enough training.

I've further develop my skills in HTML, CSS and JavaScript. I also learned the Django framework. I also strengthened my understanding in non-programming skills such as using git's more advanced features, code reviewing and been exposed to using virtual machines and remote computers.
Also I've learned non-technical skills such as collaborating with team members, planning large projects and effectively managing my time.

I had access to at least one team member almost all the time if I ever got stuck. They guided me through and was happy to teach me many new things I didn't know before. I also was free to talk to my line manager whenever he wasn't occupied with a meeting about anything I needed to. They were also quite understanding when I had went through some rough times.

My branch was quite chill. Everyone got along and were very friendly. They were supportive and never turned down a conversation. The company is very into helping local schools and charities as well, as well as providing lots of exciting opportunities for trips such as team building exercises in the Scottish Highlands.

I enjoyed my placement quite a lot. I learned a lot, am proud of the work I have done as well as felt accepted and enjoyed my time. I would love to go back if given the opportunity.
