Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

Rotating through the different HR departments to gain an understanding of HR (Talent, L&D, I&D, HR
Ops, Reward)
• Working with HR team members on a day to day to ensure compliance with employment law and company policies
and procedures at all times
• Advising line managers and Operational HR Teams on HR Policies that fall within Talent, Reward, Payroll, HR Admin, Learning and Development and Inclusion and Diversity
• Supporting on various different projects that link with the Tarmac People Agenda, such as Talent, Training and
Learning and Development projects
• Collecting and analysing data to assist the Operational HR team to draw insights
• Contributing to the wider HR team by sharing and collaborating with colleagues
• Support HR training and coaching practices

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

The training provider is good. Unfortunately as I am studying a level 3 I am unable to start level 5 until my apprenticeship finishes, which will be September 2025. This is frustrating because I would have preferred to start my level 5 earlier whilst I'm in the mindset of studying. I think there should be January intakes however the training provider doesn't offer this.
I enjoy the programme at Tarmac because I have been given lots of different opportunities to attend and develop my knowledge and skills.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

Very structured. I know the expectations and the programme offered. My line manager and I have regular 1:1 discussions regarding my development.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

My line manager and I have regular 1:1 discussions regarding my development. I am able to contact them if I feel I need to discuss anything. I have a scheduled day a week focusing on my college work, and if I need to have additional time then my line manager is supportive.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

We have standard progress reviewers with the apprentice assessor and my line manager attends these which I find useful.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I am able to apply the content learned on the CIPD course to my current role whilst doing my daily tasks. I have no prior experience in HR so it is important for me to be able to apply the theory to the practical of my role.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

No we don't really have the opportunities as apprentices to attend professional networking events. I think it would be beneficial if the training provider offered HR professional to visit and do talks or arrange a visit to an employee tribunal. It would also be good if other apprenticeship providers hosted a day/forum/conference for apprentices to meet and talk to different individuals and companies.
