Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I work within one of the systems engineering teams providing product realisation systems design. I own a piece of work within the team and it is my responsibility to develop the design and then get sign off by the relevant stakeholders.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I enjoy my programme, I have a great group of friends from the programme which make it a lot better. The work load is intense especially in the final year with all of the university workload.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Absolutely, I have developed a vast array of skills from specific systems engineering skills through to communication and organisation. Our apprenticeship teams track our development and each placement we discuss with them the skills we developed or want to develop.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
It is very structured, we complete 6 month placements in different teams across the business to learn about what the business does. We are responsible for a lot with our apprenticeship as well so if you are organised it will make the experience a lot better.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
I receive a lot of support with my employer. They are able to give me time off to study when exams and coursework are due which is a great help. My apprentice managers are always there if I need to chat.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
A lot of support, study leave is available during exam season.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
1/5
My degree isn't related to my role, I bring more from my role to by degree than the other way around.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
We have social representatives at every site and there are constantly social events going on, I play sports 3 times a week with people from work.

Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Great benefits, great pay, great job and great support. Lots of potential to develop after the apprenticeship too.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
What you put into the apprenticeship is what you get out of it. Prepare for the workload to be intense, and it will all pay off.
