Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
The work part is super enjoyable and you get to learn a lot in a real life setting, while also gaining experience. It's also a relatively relaxed environment to allow you to learn at your own pace and still make progress within the team. The university course and teaching could be improved as currently it's not entirely relevant to what we do at work.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
There is constant opportunity to learn in every team/placement you are put into, however no set courses or soft exercises to complete (more of a thrown in the deep end kind of thing). Skills are learnt and developed constantly and naturally as you spend more time at work.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
At the start there was a brief period where information about the programme as a whole was scarce, but this was due to everyone still settling in - expect to be in the dark for the first few weeks. The objectives and timeline of the programme becomes more clear as time goes on.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
Regular check ups from and meetings with line manager to make sure we are happy and on track.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
Assigned a university tutor to help with non technical course related concerns. Also lots of resources on university network to do with loads of different topics, report writing, referencing, professional skills, presentations, etc.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
2/5
As mentioned before the qualification isn't entirely relevant to your day to day work, in particular the technical side of things you learn very little about through the training provider. However, soft skills and general employable characteristics are greatly improved.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
Sports clubs, days out, networking, going down to the pub, depending on your team

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Excellent company to work for with lots of opportunities to learn and gain real world experience as an apprentice.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
Don't think you can't land an apprenticeship because you have no experience in the specific role. Show you're human and have a personality during your interviews, answer honestly and you'll learn the rest on the job!
