Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
Within my role as a data analyst, I have worked with displaying data on dashboards and creating excel documents which help important decisions get made. I have also experienced working with clients, talking about what the data shows and what steps need to be taken to provide a better service.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I had never been informed about degree apprenticeships (or apprenticeships in general) whilst in school or college as the focus had always been on getting a degree. Since I have been doing this apprenticeship, I have learnt more things than I thought was possible and has the chance to work on great teams which has helped me build confidence and experience a professional environment. Coupled with the fact that there are no tuition fees, applying for this apprenticeship has been the best decision to date.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have developed skills within excel, learning new formulas and methods of presenting data. I have also had the opportunity to learn how to build and use dashboards on power BI and tableau. I have also learnt how to write and read code, including python and SQL.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
My programme is well structured with university sessions weekly and a timetable for this set out from your first day. This makes it very easy to plan holidays and other work around your studying time. The work is also structured well with regular placements to give you the chance to work in different areas.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
My employer does a lot to support me, providing a skills coach to support me during my apprenticeship and an apprenticeship lead who you can go to for any concerns or anything else you might need. I am also well supported by the managers on my placements.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
My training provider support me by providing me with a mentor who is there to discuss my progress, any issues or concerns and to provide advice for my studying. The lecturers within my university are also supportive and are always available if I need help with something I have struggled with in a lesson.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
My qualification provides me with learning related to programming, data and software, all of which I can then relate to work. I am also given the chance to practice presenting and writing reports which are useful skills to have for the workplace.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
I haven't been there long but have been offered to be a part of numerous activities relating to my skills and interests. There are also opportunities to participate in social events with your team and fellow apprentices. There are also chances to attend networking events that are wider than just company based.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
Yes
Why?
BAE Systems is a great company to work for. You get the opportunity to learn something new everyday and experience things you never would be able to. They are always there to support you and they are plenty of opportunities for personal and professional growth.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
When applying to BAE Systems, you need to be able to demonstrate that you're the type of person who could make a difference within their company. So I would recommend looking at what values BAE Systems look for and what skills you would work on within your job/apprenticeship programme.
