Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
The role varies depending on the placement, which rotate every 6 months. I have had placements where I spent large amounts of time on the submarine gaining hands on experience and placements where I spend all my time at a desk, working in integration between companies in the build process.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
The programme is really enjoyable and i'm very happy in my choice to take up the apprenticeship, I couldn't think of anything else id rather do.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
3/5
I gained a good understanding of many systems on board the submarine and learned how to work on/ fault find electrical systems. I have also furthered my communication skills in my role due to the need to speak to new people frequently.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The programme is well organised, catering placements (within reason) to the wants of the apprentice, allowing for exploration of desired areas within the company.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
There is a good support framework, I have never felt like there wasn't enough support.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
The college is good and provides everything you need.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
For me it hasn't been that transferable but I can imagine it would be for others in different placements.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
There are plenty of talks to get involved in both inside and outside of work, teams often go out together. I've had no issues socially as the apprentices all tend to become friends in and out of work.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
Yes
Why?
It is a great opportunity to gain valuable experience in an interesting field, while accruing no student debt and getting paid a good wage. The work is usually interesting, there is not much not to like.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
Research the submarine programme before your interview learn names and dates for the different programmes. Ensure you come across as kind and conscientious as the interview is largely to determine the type of person you are as they already know you reach the standard academically due to the grades you apply with.
