Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
Interacting with stakeholders, ensuring delivery of tasks on time and budget and to the required quality. Whilst also working towards apprenticeship competencies.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I am thoroughly enjoying the programme. I believe that what you put in you get out, if you seek out opportunities and is open minded then the company has many development opportunities to develop you. I enjoy variety in my work therefore take on additional stretch projects to gain this.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Too many to list! New knowledge of IT systems ie. MS project. Understanding the role of a PM, the required processes and governance to run a project. Communication has improved dramatically and I am more confident.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The company and university talk often which is beneficial. I think the quality of the days i work online could be improved however, Cumbria Uni are always open to feedback on how to achieve this.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
A lot, i have my line manager, a skills coach, mentor, and the support of my wider team and the early careers team.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
They are always around to help, sometimes communications can be slow, but I feel as though this is just the nature of their work being spread across many cohorts.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
Since starting i have seen many overlaps in the theory i learn at Uni and the work i complete in the office. As a practical learner this is very beneficial as i am able to put things into practise as soon as i learn them, and also helps me revise the course content in my day to day job.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
Yes, stretch projects, work socials, networking events. They could be more often but there is an active effort to improve this.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I have had no worries, complaints since starting. I am supported, finding opportunities in the organisation and do not feel as though the early Careers are forgotten, given less responsibility. I am very well listened too and my feedback is always welcomed. I am enjoying the roles, the work I am doing and building connections with other early careers and the other stakeholders in the business.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
It is okay to not have vast amounts of knowledge, if you can show the right attitude and behaviours to wanting to learn then you are likely to be successful. A positive attitude does not go unmissed.
