Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

Bid management role in which I am responsible for new bids that come into this area of the business. I work alongside commercial and procurement teams to ensure work is completed to schedule. I also partake in apprentice development activities on the regular, such as running and organising early career events.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I am really enjoying the programme so far as I am working with experienced colleagues who are happy to support and help e develop. It is also great working in a large cohort of apprentices, in my year and others, that get along so well. The placements so far have been varied and are tailored towards development. I feel like I will get alot out of this apprenticeship.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have become much better with leadership skills as I have to lead meetings for a team of people and issue out actions. My public speaking skills continue to develop by having opportunity to talk to larger forums, this a skill I have always struggled in.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

The programme is very organised. We have 5 annual placements which match up to the competencies we need to meet in the standard. We also get check ins with early career staff regularly where we review our competencies and how we have developed/need to develop.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

In our placements I have found colleagues are happy to support and the same with the early careers staff. Although personally I don't require constant support, I know it is available and who I would need to approach.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

We have weekly sessions with the training provider to learn the content, these sessions are online and in person. We are recommended reading and resources for support and they will check reference lists/writing for assignments
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

Sometimes it is clear to see how uni content reflects in our role. But as there are so many roles in the organisation and a large syllabus sometimes our placements and the uni content don't match up. However, I have no doubt that the content can be used in our roles at some point.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Yes, and if we wanted to start a new one it would be easy and supported. I have attended social events with apprentices and in my placements.

Why?
There is great opportunity to grow in the role and opportunity to work at different sites across the UK and abroad. The apprenticeship schemes are well developed and the early careers staff are continuously helping us and the schemes improve. I am happy i work here.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
It would be important to familiarise yourself with what the company does and what it believes in. To not give up if their first attempt was unsuccessful. It took me multiple attempts as the apprenticeships are so competitive
