Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I am currently on a placement where i am putting together a resource management and future planning tool for my team. As apprentices, we are encouraged to take part in extra activities to build on Knowledge, skills and Behaviours required for the apprenticeship standard.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

In general I really enjoy the programme. It is engaging and well delivered, the standard of teaching and the focuses on early careers and development of apprentices is excellent. The programme is well handled in terms of communication and management between my employer and the training provider.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

yes, mainly development of existing skills and i am a mature learner with some relevant experience. I find that most of the learning comes from university with work/placement providing the change to consolidate and practice learned knowledge and skills.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

The structure is very well put together. The programme is handled well between the PM function, early careers and the training provider. the structure has been well thought out and clearly communicated to us as apprentices and there is plenty of interaction between early careers and apprentices to maintain engagement.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

outside of the scope of the apprenticeship itself, I do not require or receive any support from my employer but I am aware of the range of support available for a range of issues including: Financial Support, Educational Support, Mental health etc.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

The support offered from the training provider is appropriate for the level of the qualification that I am undertaking and briefs for assignments are clear and helpful.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

Very well. without various aspects of my qualification it would be much harder to learn the skills and knowledge required for my role.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

yes. The ones that i have been primarily involved in are work based but there are a number of social clubs and societies available for apprentices and employees

Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Because it is a good reliable employer that pays well, especially for an apprenticeship. It offers good pathways for career development, especially for early careers/entry level joiners and access to higher education without accruing student debt.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
Think about how your experiences through work, education and personal life could relate to aspects of the role you are applying for.
