Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

Since joining SAP, I've taken on several roles, primarily assisting project managers and ECSPs with their day-to-day tasks. One key responsibility has been tracking project metrics for our customers, which involves detailed analysis of time, budget, and expenditure. Using Excel, I evaluate the spending our customers take on with our solutions and suggest monthly and annual improvements to enhance cost efficiency and help reach out goals.
Additionally, I actively participate in external meetings with our partners, often involving shared customers. These sessions are invaluable as they provide insight into our operational approaches relative to our partners, deepen my understanding of our solution deployment processes, and how we can better collaborate with our partners.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I thoroughly enjoy the programme as it allows me to engage in a variety of responsibilities and see what is suitable for me. I find the amount of work I am given at SAP to be content and I am able to equally allocate time for all tasks received, however I do find the university workload to be excessive at times as well as lacking time efficiency. Furthermore, the weekly workload received by our training provider will be quite content heavy and this results in not having enough time to work on the end-assignment of our entire module. Other than this, I do find the overall programme to be extremely insightful and look forward to completing the rest of this programme.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

The skill that I’ve been able to enhance since joining SAP would be my technical proficiency. As I am simultaneously studying for a technology-based degree I have been able to incorporate this into my daily tasks at SAP and use this to gain a better understanding of certain solutions, their system architecture and the purpose they provide for certain customers. Also taking part in interactive projects using our tools such as SAC, a cloud-based platform, to present data visualisations and make informed business decisions has allowed me to portray the technical skills I’ve gained as well as presentation skills.
Taking part in user experience/user interface design has also been beneficial for me as it helped me to understand the importance of customer viewing/ focus and I’ve been able to become quite adaptable as design landscapes and constantly evolving, so being adaptable is crucial when I’m learning about new techniques, tools and design trends that will better suit our customers.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

The programme has been very well structured for us with just the right amount of flexibility to it. We have many resources and guidance on what particular work we should be doing but we are also encouraged to take on any projects and tasks that have sparked an interest for us. As technology apprentices, we began integrating our university studies early into our apprenticeship. This alignment has enabled us to work on projects directly related to our coursework. Most recently, our focus on project management was complemented by SAP, which arranged face-to-face sessions with experienced project managers and project management officers to deepen our understanding and skills in this area.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

I receive an immense amount of support from SAP in every aspect of my work. I’m provided with support with different members at SAP when dealing with different tasks I’m allocated as well as my university work. Many of the tasks I’ve completed for ECSP’s and TQM’s at SAP have been allocated to me with many resources on how to complete the tasks.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

The support provided by SAP towards gaining our level 6 qualification would be moderate. At the beginning of my apprenticeship journey, the university aspect had been separate from our work at SAP and I would not often find as much support as I do now.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

The qualification I am gaining through my training provider has been quite helpful. I’m constantly applying the different concepts and theories I’ve learnt towards my role.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Yes, there are many extra-curricular activities at SAP. Some of my current, favourite would be our language club and book club.

SAP is a company I’d definitely recommend to a friend of mine as it holds many great values that make me proud to be a member of SAP. At SAP we pride ourselves on our diverse workforce and inclusive culture, where everyone can feel valued and can bring their authentic selves to work. This is a value of SAP that I definitely take pride in and would emphasise to any friend interested in SAP.
