Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

85% of the time i was out on site either doing stock condition surveys or invasive engineering surveys. When on site, it was my job to find the information and record it. then when i was back in the office, it was my responsibility to upload said information to the job folder for the project managers to see. If anything needed amending then it was my job.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

yes, for the first few weeks, I was guided by other people, however when i got to know the system and how they work, then it was down to myself to find what i needed and where to find it. There was always someone to help if i got stuck. I had the responsibility of a full employee, not just a placement student.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?

I have massively developed my CAD skills as well as my building pathology. I have become better at time management through having a schedule and since actually being in a surveying practise, it has made my university module make more sense to me. I have developed an independent working ability.

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?

Someone was always there to answer my questions and help me where i needed it. I had guidance where i didn't know what i was doing but when i understood the task, then i was left to do it. Because some employees had been in my place, they knew what i needed guidance on

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

Really nice place to work. A largely young team so an office day was never boring. Superiors were really nice and happy to help wherever i needed it whether it be work related or personal issues. Never felt any judgement. Offices are a nice place to work and not over crowded

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?

Personally i really enjoyed it and found it a very useful thing to do. It gave me an incite of how work life really is in the industry and made university easier to understand. I personally liked the amount of work that was on site, so that means working away a lot in various places across the country.
