Assistant building Surveyor Review

My role within the asset management team mainly consisted of helping to deliver stock condition surveys to a wide range of housing associations and councils across the country. Day to day this consisted of completing surveys, validating external surveyors, and assisting project mangers where required. I also supported the survey technicians when completing various structural surveys. .

My responsibility increased gradually at the beginning of the placement. However after the first few months I quickly gained more. when completing surveys I planned my own time and appointments. and was quickly trusted by the team the complete stock condition surveys independently.

During my placement I have both developed existing and learnt new skills.
I have been able to develop my understanding of building pathology through training received and gaining experience while completing surveys on residential property's. this was also supported by asking questions to qualified building surveyors within the company.
Thought the year I have learnt how stock condition and structural surveys are carried out, what is required and the wider responsibility surveys have, epically within social housing. I have also gained practical experience in an office environment where I have learnt new skills including administrative and general office procedure.

From the beginning to the end of the placement i received support as and when it was required. The training that i received was more than sufficient and there wasn't pressure to be competent in all areas straight away. My team were approachable so was able to gain necessary support. Different members of the team were charted within two different bodies so could provide guidance with the chartership process.

The Culture and atmosphere at he company was great. I felt welcomed by my immediate and wider team.. my team always remained professional but also found time for a chat where possible, making it an enjoyable place to work There were also initiatives that rewarded you for the work completed.

I have thoroughly enjoyed my placement and feel it has helped me gain valuable experience. to progress my career. I particular enjoyed the fact i was able to complete work independently rather than just shadowing others. this responsibly has helped me quickly progress. having a friendly approachable team also made the placement enjoyable.
