Everyday can be different to the last as an apprentice engineer.
From being out on site, managing gangs, checking works and gaining vast knowledge from every corner of the industry the potential is outstanding.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

This program has been detrimental to my future. The fact i come away from this intense five years with a degree and years of site experience will truly set me apart from graduate engineers as I progress my career with KIER

Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

The program is pretty new for KIER so there were some teething problems to begin and you do have to be stern with your seniors when it comes to allowing you time to study (As it is part of the contract) however its all brilliant experience.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

There are a whole host of resources at our fingertips within KIER to help us with everyday life. However I found that the university provided better mental health support and better support for my specialist needs (ADHD)
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

As mentioned in the previous Comment, the university have been second to non with their support for my specialist needs. Although the course itself could have improvements in terms of management.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

This is where the the apprenticeship falls flat in my opinion but this cant be helped as the course is a broad understanding of the subject while i am already specialised in my job role. The course is very much design heavy and not the correct path of learning for a physical site engineer who has to deal with people more than calculating loads on a beam designed my myself.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Site staff have always been friendly and welcoming and depending what you are into you are never left out of after work sports (such as football) or social events (Weekly get togethers)

Why?
Overall KIER have been brilliant for my development. As one of the Industry's giants they manage cohorts of apprentices very well. which in my opinion in the best way to start a career in construction or any trade for that matter. They are never too busy to provide the support within their remit and have treat me brilliantly from the day I started. I would like the Thank Neil Hosie, Steven Lynn and ALL of the North East Construction team for a brilliant first year at KIER. And for my other two years working on HS2 (Incredible opportunity) Id like to thank Christos Fasoulas for being an incredible line manager.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Kier Group?
KIER's program tops all other competition in my opinion. Having met Apprentices from multiple companies in the same position, they truly make you feel like part of the family and not just another employee. Thank you KIER.
