Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
2/5
Learning how electrical circuits work in order to begin undertaking electrical inspection and testing tasks in order to prove that circuits used throughout the business are safe for use and will not cause harm to any operators within the surrounding area.
when learning no real examples are used.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
2/5
the first half of the program was boring and did not facilitate the knowledge required to do the job that we are supposed to be learning to do. this could use an entire overhaul in order to make it more relevant to what our job is day to day. the second half of the program is enjoyable as you are working with on site teams in order to actually learn and complete jobs which allows you to get an understanding as to how our job role help the business to function.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
2/5
i have learnt how electricity moves through a circuit as well as how we are able to harness and control it.
this took until half way through my second year on site before it was beginning to be explained to me.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
1/5
the structure of the program does not work as many of the tasks which are set out at the beginning of the program do not relater to the end of the program and therefore do not actually prepare you for your role within the company.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
1/5
my main manager does not give support on a regular basis and is often not reachable when he is needed. however there are others within the company who are happy to help/explain things if you are unsure on them as long as the question is asked.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
1/5
we are allowed to take a small portion of the work time in order to complete work towards getting the qualification side of the training however the qualification has little to do with the actual electrical work and therefore our supervisors are little help when it comes to answering questions about the qualification work questions
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
1/5
it has little impact on my working role as it has very little to do with my role other than allowing me to carry out maintenance role. i am not able to use any knowledge gained from my qualification within my day to day working. and would be able to complete the jobs on the training i received on site without any of the knowledge used to obtain the qualification.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
2/5
there are events that take place within the company however they are not enticing enough for me to want to partake in them.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend AWE to a friend?
Yes
Why?
i believe that once past the lack of training and communication between the training supervisors and on site teams the work done on site with the teams is very advantageous and can allow a person to work towards their own knowledge goals for the future.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to AWE?
i would tell them to make it through the apprenticeship and the lack of communication in order to begin working within the real side of the business and get to their own working goals.
