Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

Running operations in an Amazon warehouse. Learning the process then stepping up as a manager taking on more HR responsibility, concerns for safety, engineers, change, finance, senior leadership and other stakeholders. We manage the operations and ensure all packages reach their customer on time without compromising quality along the way.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I enjoyed it a lot. It came with its challenges but the alchemical doesn’t take place unless pressure is applied. It is not the meat that makes the lion strong but the act of hunting. The company supported our trips to Manchester for the Uni sessions and the cohort I was in was very supportive and engaging

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Many, I feel very confident tackling any business aspect in the future from planning, to supply chain, to operations. The degree apprenticeship and support by both the uni and the company has really propelled me into the world of work with a large hollistic view of how everything connects and works.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

It is quite structured but I would prefer more integration between the university and the company. My work place is a high pressure high stakes environment and our managers can become very busy and not give enough attention to apprentices not necessarily to a fault of their own. I wish there was a better mentorship system throughout to provide more relatable guidance but I guess since I am within the second cohort that is something my generation can work on.
From the university perspective everything was very organised and structured. Some of the timing could have been better for example leaving 3 weeks from a final webinar session to a deadline is quite a tight schedule, and could have been spaced out a bit better. Plus the uni hot weeks could have been 5 days rather than 4 and on the Wednesday had a more relaxed engaging day where the students can do more communal work with supervision rather than be lectured. It would give the students room to consolidate, and ask for advise without time constraints. I found having the lecturers nearby whilst completing work was very useful as I prefer in person lessons

How much support do you receive from your employer?

I received good immediate support with things like finances and transport. Initially there was good communication and support from line managers, but as my role became more busy, so did my managers who were ever changing which was not useful for continuity, but thus is the nature of my company.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

The university was very good at developing all the qualifications and providing relevant training necessary for myself and my future. I am very satisfied. From the degree to the CMI qualification plus having developed a wide business understanding I am very grateful and appreciative for this course and the things it has taught me
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

So much better, the training is a very good overview and deep dive into my field of business, its history, how it runs and preparations for sustainability into the future. It talks about integrating technologies and modern day techniques which sets me up for my career which is very supportive.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

At work there are a few apprentice events which are alright, and unofficial football events within our teams and societies which I do appreciate. It’s not as dynamic as university by itself but what can I expect when uni is independent students but at work there are people with bigger responsibilities

Why?
Amazon provides superb financial support and for the right characters and resilience there is a treasure trove of knowledge. The mentors I have on site are very good and the networking is second to none. The company is inclusive to all diversities and the hiring is very good. It is a good company, busy but good
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Amazon?
Energy, pacing, and resilience. It’s not easy and suits an active curious mind to thrive at Amazon, from an operations standpoint. There are a lot of opportunities for different personalities, and there are a lot of ways to do the same task. Creativity can be rewarded and the company can be flexible as well
