Overview of Experience

Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
During the 3-day event, we have panel discussions and introductory sessions in the morning and technical workshop in the afternoon.
On Day 1, we have introduction to Amazon to learn more about the company; in the afternoon we were separated into technical subgroups and learned hash map.
On Day 2, we have interview panels in the morning sharing valuable tips on interviews; in the afternoon, we learned caching and did debug exercise.
On Day 3, we have technical workshop in the morning. We developed games and upgraded it. In the afternoon, program coordinators introduced further steps and we had fun pop quiz.
What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
Software Development Engineer is actually a position that I had little knowledge about before. In my impression, they were a group of people responsible for coding all day and finishing tasks that others assigned. But in fact, SDE is a really fantastic role. They have to create, innovate, and think ahead of others, their job is intense yet important. I learned about their position, daily work and am getting in love with the place. It was really insightful knowledge.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
During the technical workshops, I've learned many techniques and skills that I haven't learned before. I'm a Math degree student so I had limited experience with coding before, the technical subgroups allowed me to understand new concepts like Hash map and Cache, I also had opportunities to design game programs myself.
Other sessions are extremely useful as well. Interview Sessions taught me a lot of useful tips on interviewing and I found I made many mistakes in past interviews. I learned about Amazon's culture, its leadership principles and general environment.

Company Culture

How would you rate business leader involvement during the insight

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
The company has a free, innovative, diverse environment. I can feel the vitality of workers when they're introducing themselves and their day at Amazon. This is probably the fascinating side of the great tech company. It needs innovation and development, therefore it allows its members to be flexible and relaxed so that they could access their full potential. I heard about lots of events and programs at Amazon to improve Diversity & Inclusion, which is really great.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
I enjoy the event very much. This is the best Spring Insight Week I've ever attended and this makes me love Amazon so much. Normally people describe Spring Week as a chance for you to explore the company and a fast track to get summer internship. But Amazon did much more than that! They have designed fantastic mentor programs and technique workshops. The mini subgroups are really helpful and we have full engagement with the in-person coding. This is opportunity I haven't had in other Spring Weeks.

Yes
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Amazon
Amazon is a great company, yet competitive as well! I can see that all my subgroup members are wonderful talented people, you can see them as 'competitors', so please continue to train yourself to be better and never stop learning.
Furthermore, stick on with Amazon's leadership principle! It's very important, it's how Amazon select people and see if you have these qualities, understand where you should improve.
Finally, be yourself! Amazon is a free environment that embraces everyone!
