Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I am a senior care officer in a children's home that provides respite for children with additional needs.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
So far so good!

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have only just started my apprenticeship, so I have not yet learnt any new skills. I also am not new to this field of work and am completing my apprenticeship because it is a legal requirement rather than it being to teach me about this field. I have found it interesting however to explore the type of learner I am and how I cognitively process information.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
2/5
I think I have been in an unfortunate position as the training provider decided to change the way that they delivered the course after I had started. This has meant I am now on my fourth tutor in 3 months, and all of the work I had done up until now is no longer relevant. This has meant I have had to essentially start again.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
My employer is extremely encouraging when it comes to personal development and always checks in with my progress as well as ensuring I have the time and capacity to complete the work related to my apprenticeship.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
The support has been on and off due to the changes in delivery. I haven't really had a tutor long enough to build up a relationship and this has made things difficult.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
It gives me lots of insight, but as it is designed for people who are new to the field it does mean lots of feels tedious for those who have worked in this field for a number of years.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Yes, as we fall under the local authority there are always opportunities to get stuck into.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Wiltshire council to a friend?
Yes
Why?
They are very supportive, always lots of opportunities for development, are keen to support long-term career goals.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Wiltshire council?
It can be overwhelming with regards to the number of teams, number of people, and paperwork! But it's important to focus on your role and your own team and the rest can carry on in the background.
