Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
As an aircraft maintenance technician apprentice, I earn whilst I learn. I complete A license modules, NVQ and carry out On Job Training learning various different hand skills and gain experience from different technicians. I get to carry out a variety of different tasks on the aircraft and on different airframes.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
So far on this apprenticeship journey, I have really enjoyed my time. I really enjoy carrying out the different amounts of tasks ranging in complexity on the aircraft and developing my skills and knowledge. I also enjoy working along side different technicians and learning from them and them passing their knowledge and experience onto me.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
On my journey so far, I have learnt various different new skills and developed already existing ones, I have learnt various different hand skills, for example, how to wire lock and carry out split pinning. I have also learnt how to follow a manual to carry our specific tasks. My confidence has also massively improved.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
Overall, i would say that the apprenticeship program that i am on is organized and structured very well. This is because we always get notified if something is changing within the business and everyone knows where their placement is and where they need to be. We also have time frames of when things required to be completed by and normally would receive a reminder to get it done.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
Within our apprenticeship, we receive masses amount of support from our employer in Boeing. We have comms with our line manager and then we also have an apprentice support person who we have comms with at all times. Whenever we need help with someone or have an issue etc we just have to reach out and we hear back and have support quickly.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
When completing our NVQ to get our qualification, we receive some support from out training provider. We see our NVQ assessor once a month where they come in and give us feedback on our work. We also get feedback outside of these meetings on our work. We also have 8 weekly meetings with a training provider support person who asks our progress and asks if we need support or have any concerns.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
For my apprenticeship, the qualification helps to a certain extent to help me perform better in my role. Completing the task reports for the different types of jobs helps me gain knowledge and show i understand how the job is carried out etc. With the Knowledge evidence questions, these dont really help with better performance of the roles as our job is mainly hands on.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
With our job, there is a few activities that we can get involved in outside of work. We can get involved in various different STEM activities inspiring the next generation into the industry. We get chances to visit the house of commons for apprentice events. We can get involved in engagement days aswell.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Boeing UK to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I would recommend Boeing because you get to earn whilst you learn, you get to gain different amount of skills and improve your knowledge on different air frames. You also get a recognized qualification and you get to complete various different tasks on the aircraft that might not come up that often,
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Boeing UK?
My advice to anyone applying to Boeing is to ensure that you be yourself and honest at all times. It's important to display what experience and skills you already have and what skills and experience you want to advance. It's also important to be aware that the first 10 months of the apprenticeship when studying the a license modules, it's very intense and does get hard at some points but revision is key.
