Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

My role so far has involved a lot of training, this includes university study and training at national grids training facility in Eaking. The training provided has been excellent and well taught. I have also spent time in the National Grid main office in Warwick, where i have learnt a lot about how the business operates.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I have really enjoy working at national Grid and I have gained a lot of knowledge in the 7 months I have been here. The programme has been very rewarding and well structed to provide a healthy work life balance.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have learnt many new skills whilst working at grid. I have improved my interpersonal skills and communications skills by conducting presentations and networking with other apprentices and employees.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

The structure of the programme has been very good and allowed me to have a healthy work life balance. The programme has been well set out with timetables easy to read and planned well in advance, making it easy to work my life around training dates.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

The support provided by National Grid is excellent and they make you feel like you are safe to speak about any concerns or problems, within work or at home. National Grid have many different support programmes/applications to make sure you can get the appropriate help when needed.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

They provide excellent support with university and onsite training to make sure I can successfully pass my exams and that I will be ready for my EPA.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

The skills and knowledge that I have learnt at university and at national grids training centre have had a direct impact on my job role back at the office. It has enabled me to understand the fundamentals of my role and the reasoning for decisions taken within my team.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

National Grid have many events that you can get involved with to help networking , go on site visits and raise money for charity. Newnet is a great way to visit sites and speak to people across the business, grid for good is a fantastic way to volunteer and speak to people about your journey at national grid.

I would say ensure you are good at working within a team, suggesting ideas and listening to others.
