Overview of Experience
Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
Every day we had a few sessions where different employees spoke about their life at Amazon and what Amazon has to offer. It was really insightful - Amazon sounds like a wonderful place to work! We also had technical workshops each day where we worked on projects individually and in pairs. This was my favorite part, as it allowed me to work on interesting projects and improve my skills (and prepare for my upcoming programming exam :)).
What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
I found this event really insightful. I had read Amazon's leadership principles while applying for the Insights Program, it was great to hear more about how employees apply those principles at work. It was also good to hear about the variety of roles available at Amazon. I would like to apply to Amazon for an SDE internship and eventually for a full-time role. This event has taken me a step closer to applying to Amazon :)

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
In the technical workshops, Vagisha (our mentor) taught us about the different ways of caching. I didn't know much about caching before so it was great to learn more about it. I also had the opportunity to apply my programming skills and other computing concepts to real life programming projects. This helped me further develop my programming skills. Coding with others and then providing and receiving feedback has been a wonderful way of learning.

How would you rate business leader involvement during the insight

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
The culture and atmosphere was great. In some of the sessions, we learnt a lot about Amazon's affinity groups. All the employees were really nice and were extremely passionate about their job which is very motivating. Working with a mentor in small groups was great too, because it gave me the opportunity to get to know an Amazon employee and what her work was like, and also to get to know a few other participants really well. This helped me feel a lot more connected which is often difficult in virtual events.

Overall Experience
To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
I really enjoyed the Amazon Discovery Insights program. I learned more about Amazon and its employees, and also had the opportunity to develop my skills further and work with other like-minded people. The mentorship opportunity is really appealing too and I would love to participate in that. I wanted to better prepare myself for applying to Amazon next year for a Software Development Engineering internship and the talks and technical workshops have definitely helped me with that.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Amazon
I was initially looking for ways in which I could better prepare myself for applying for a software development engineering internship at Amazon next year. When I found this event, it seemed like it was the perfect way of learning more about Amazon and the application process. Having completed the event, I do feel a lot more confident about applying because I better understand the application process and the core principles that make up Amazon. I would recommend this event to all those looking for the same.
