Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
1/5
Learning the various products we do on site including electrical units and power systems. Building, testing, engineering and repair maintenance on them.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
1/5
It was good to start with but progression was hard to find, once you have been here for a couple of years, you have learnt most of the skills and they don't offer much movement within the business. It has now changed within the business that the manufacturing apprentices move around the business but my year and the older years have had to stay in one area for the entirety of the apprenticeship.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
2/5
Working with the variety of people has made me develop my existing skills. Also have a small background in manufacturing and the electrical side it has given me many skills and much knowledge in this sector through going to college and working on site.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
1/5
In the past year a lot more thought has been put into this apprenticeship as before the AMA apprenticeship was clearly forgotten about. Now they get transferred around site they get to learn more. College was also rather unorganised when we started both years.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
If I ever had a problem I could easily contact my apprenticeship manager and they would help with the situation and sort it all out. My line manager would also be able to help with tasks and projects if I wanted to do anything different.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
2/5
The first two years when we have college in the week, we get more support as we are with the teachers but in the third year we are left to do the work and don't hear much from the training provider except from the training coordinator once in a while and when we finish any work.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
1/5
We learn a technician qualification but don't work with those sills at work much as we are made to be just manufacturing a do not repair or fault find with technicians usually,.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
Social activities have become a lot bigger in the past year which is nice as different schemes have come together more. Sports events have taken part and out of work events. There are no professional networking events but I would like there to be some created and it would be good for everyone to be involved.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend GE Aerospace to a friend?
No
Why?
It depends of what apprenticeship scheme as certain schemes are fast forwarded and preferred and some are forgotten about.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to GE Aerospace?
Network with as many people as you can within the business, try and work within as many areas as you can and enjoy it. The idea to be an apprentice is to go and learn as much as you can so have fun.
