Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
Processing a personal portfolio of payrolls/assisting other members of staff with their work when required.
I spend roughly 7 hours of my week completing OTJ apprenticeship work.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I enjoy the sessions with my tutor the most, I find these to be engaging and interactive which is the best way for me to learn.
The assignments are a good consolidation of what we learn but I would prefer these to be split up more.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Yes, I had worked several months in payroll prior but was very new to the role.
The confidence I feel in the workplace has grown massively since beginning the apprenticeship and I've developed a lot of knowledge since starting.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
The programme is well structured for the knowledge aspect of the course.
At the start of my apprenticeship it appeared there was a lot of confusion about the EPA for everyone (including tutors) which has slowly gotten better over the past couple of months.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
A lot of support is given by my employer.
Any time I need to put myself on do not disturb to complete OTJ hours, they are happy for me to do so.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
My tutor provides a lot of support, from discussions in one to one calls about the EPA and tasks to checking calculations for assignments to ensure I'm on the right track.
I feel very supported with the course.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
It has helped me build a base level of knowledge which I can then take forward into the job role and apply to my day to day working.
A lot of the knowledge so far has explained why we process things in certain ways, which is great to use for queries/explanations.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
There are young professional events that I could attend, should I wish to.
I am part of the social committee currently but stepping down in April to focus on my larger work portfolio and apprenticeship work.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Saffery LLP to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I have already recommended the role to one of my friends, who is now also working in the payroll department.
The combination of the company and apprenticeship is a great opportunity to learn a skill that is sought after in a professional but welcoming environment. I feel that this apprenticeship has brilliant foundations and the teaching provided by tutors is thorough and effective which is one of the reasons I suggested the role to my friend who was also looking to learn a new skill in the workplace.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Saffery LLP?
To research payroll prior to the job interview.
Having a base knowledge of what the role entails, I.E. processing pay from a gross figure to a net, was a great talking point for me during the interview and this has been mentioned by a manager as one of the reasons I got the role.
