Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

The job consists of a exciting balance between high level training courses at Eakring training academy, carrying out a HNC qualification at Loughborough college and then using this knowledge on site at substations to be able to work with HV electricity and advanced mechanical systems safely.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I thoroughly enjoy the programmed, it is mentally challenging and i am fulfilling my dreams of training to be an engineer. National Grid also looks after its employees extensively to ensure they have the best experience possibly whilst working away from home.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Some of the main skills i have developed is adaptability, punctuality and being able to prioritize work based on its importance as there is a lot of work that needs to be planned and categorized to meet deadlines. In addition i have also developed my communicational and teamwork abilities.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

The program is well structured allowing sufficient time on site to be involved in major maintenances and testing to showcase and develop knowledge that has originally been developed in training courses and computer based assessments.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

There is a lot of support from the apprenticeship team and a lot of health and well being platforms available to utilize 24 hours a day As well as lots of useful helplines and applications.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

There is a lot of courses in addition to learning ones that teach us to use certain software's and platforms that make it easier to complete the apprenticeship.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

There is a lot of courses based on substation assets, once these courses are carried out it gives a lot of knowledge on how the asset works so when a job on site is being done on the particular asset it makes understanding things a lot easier.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There is endless opportunities to get involved with, it is actually promoted to be involved with volunteering activities. Volunteering has its own platform at national grid... GridForGood.
