Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
As an apprentice you have a variety of different job roles as you are placed on a 12 month rotation around the factory. Along the way you will pick up new skills and gain experience during different process such as strip, repair and build. You are partnered up with an approved tradesperson as they explain and oversee the work you complete.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I enjoy the program as i have been able to highly develop my hands on skills throughout the course of the apprenticeship. Prior to starting, i had a basic understanding of mechanical practices, but now i am able to complete tasks competently. I have gained a wider knowledge of the industry which should prove to be an excellent starting block to my career.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have been able to develop skills which I hadn't acquired outside of work. These could be as simple as using new tooling/tools and learning new. As you are on a 12 month rotation in the 2nd year of the apprenticeship, it allows you to converse will a variety of people and allows them to pass down their knowledge and techniques.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
The apprentice program is structured relatively well and they provide some opportunities outside of every day work. The rotations that we work to are structured chronologically from strip, repair and then build which allows us to understand the process better. I feel as if there should be more opportunities for networking such experiencing similar GE sites within the UK which would allow workers to broaden their future.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
I feel as if the support we receive is adequate, and we are able to see appropriate members of staff if we have any issues. On the other hand, i feel as if more support should be available. We receive reviews from our people leader every business quarter which i feel could take place more frequently.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
Support from the training provider (Coleg-y-Cymoedd), is good and i felt like they were always willing to help. If you found an issue when working towards your qualification they were always willing to help, even if it was out of hours.
For our NVQ Level-3, every 6 weeks we receive a review which ensures were on track. We set targets for each reviews.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
1/5
i feel as if the qualification received in the college was not good to help better my performance in my job role. i was able to learn the basics but no aerospace units were provided for electrical apprentices so this made it hard to understand the fundamentals in this respect.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
2/5
Some professional networking events are provided but since starting, only one work organised extra curricular activity has been proposed.
