Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

The scheme is broken down into 6x 6 month rotations for the first 3 years and then a final year long placement in your 4th year. Apprentices usually rotate through roles such as operations management, material planning, quality, sourcing and planning.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

Apprentices are given meaningful projects and responsibility. The apprenticeship also has a strong support community around it. There is a good mix of work and personal development on scheme.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

A wide range of both hard and soft skills. You are given real responsibility in roles and have to be able to manage both expectations and workload. You're given exposure to all levels of the business and will develop both communication and public speaking skills.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

The rotational structure is well developed and as the scheme has been running for so many years it runs smoothly. There are still opportunities for both apprentices and managers to further develop the scheme.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

With a mix of mentors, line managers, lecturers, an apprentice manager and the wider apprentice community the scheme is well supported.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

Lecturers from Coventry Uni are great at supporting both academically and personally. They will always offer advice and the university side of the scheme is well ran.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

By completing a management and leadership degree we learn real models and information that can be directly applied to our roles across the scheme
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Overall the scheme is well ran and supported by both Coventry and GE. There is a strong apprentice community and lots of opportunities to develop both personally and professionally. The scheme sets you up well for further progression in your career.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to GE Aerospace?
Research the business and get an understanding of what supply chain involves.
