Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

Completing tasks and processes, attend regular meetings and training sessions and overall providing a service to members of pension schemes that we administer. The tasks can diversify from simply updating and maintaining members database and records such as COA, COB, EoW, personal details updates to more complex tasks such as transfer quotations, retirement illustrations, payroll, PAYE, retirement set ups, and death cases. I deal with members enquiries via telephone, email and post and liaise with banks and other third parties as appropriate. I assist with project based work such as tracing and existence exercises and other exercises with the training team from time to time.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I enjoy the apprenticeship programme and how it is structures as well as the fact that theres other opportunities which can also get you out of the office such as travelling to London. There is also a lot of support for the programme

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have broadened my knowledge on pensions and I'm constantly learning something new. If that for non standardised situations, different tasks or processes.

How well organised/structured is your programme?

In terms of the structure of BW and the apprenticeship programme it is very well thought out. With a clear progression and constant support. This means you are always learning and developing.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

There is a lot of support from your colleagues and the business as a whole. You can always reach out to someone if you wish and people are always willing to help you.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

I changed training provider half way through the apprenticeship but the Growth Company were not very organised. Giving me a large workload in a very short deadline meaning I had to complete case studies all day. But I was able to call them or send them a message with quick responses if I needed. However, felt like there was a large number of work placed on me in a short period of time.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I feel like i was always supported and when it came to the end of my apprenticeship, I was ready to be questioned on what I know and felt confident in myself.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There are social events that we can partake in which are offered to all colleagues. There are also events such as for the National Apprentice week or to promote BW in places such as schools which I enjoyed.
