Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I am currently at the International College for Aerospace Training studying for my A License exams. We do a mixture of classroom and hangar work at a 65/35 split. We have just finished our practical tasks that go with our Module 7 Exam.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I am thoroughly enjoying my programme so far. the tutors have been nothing but amazing. They also go above and beyond for the whole class and they are always encouraging us to ask more questions to further our knowledge. Our managers are always there to help us with any issues on the company side aswel. They are always checking in on us making sure we are keeping on tract and that we are doing well.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have learnt so much since joining in September. I have been able to further develop my skills such as filing, marking out, measuring in metric and imperial, the hangar whilst I completed my practical tasks. I have also learnt new skills such as riveting, countersinking, counterboring, reaming and using an air drill.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

Everything is planned out, there is nothing left to chance. Our programme is very thorough and though out.
Every lesson is pre planned and nothing is done on a whim as the programma is governed by the CAA.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

I receive all the support I could need from my employer. Any problem I might encounter my manager is more than happy to help in any way they can.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

5/5

The ICAT lectures are always there to help in any way they can. Whether its to do with classwork, revision or hangar work they always want to help. They help us with revision technique's and how to acheive the best results.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

It is a gateway into a highly regulated industry so it is key to perform well now to excel later in my career and ICAT are giving me to tools and knowledge to do just that. The qualifications go's in depth about everything I would need to know to start my journey in the industry.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Boeing are always putting on networking events to encourage us to talk with other areas of the company that we might never meet. They also put on STEM events that apprentices are invited to run to encourage the younger generations to get into STEM jobs.
