Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I work directly for the client to get Land Consents for Overhead Lines, Underground Cables and Substation Sites. Working alongside Design and Delivery engineers to progress these agreements between the landowners and the company. Agreements include wayleaves, servitudes, excambions, Leases and Close Coupled Leases (With IDNO). As well as agreeing purchase of land for substation sites and damage claims.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I enjoy my programme greatly. The role I am in allows me to pick up skills and knowledge quickly as there is often time pressure on work for completion to be reached by a certain date. My degree is not directly related to my role so it has been challenging at times to understand everything but this allows me to have a broader perspective when working on my projects,

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I am developing my knowledge or legal agreements (Servitudes and Leases) as well as other land consents. I have been learning how to negotiate and converse with different types of people such as developers, landowners, farmers and other colleagues. I have been developing the skill of independent working as I gain more of my own projects,
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

My programme is pretty well structured. I go to university for 3 x 2 week blocks a year and am allowed time during the working week to complete coursework that has been allocated during the university block. The university block can feel quite intense as the standard university term is squashed into the 2 week period. However, I find this time to be enjoyable and worthwhile.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I receive lots of support from my employer. As my university role does not relate directly to my role, I am able to seek support from other parts of the Savills business to meet this need. In my day to day role I have constant support from many members of the team who are always happy to help when I have questions.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
Support from the provider I find to be slightly lacking. When courses have been taught by a lecturer who is only there for a small period of time, you are not always able to contact them to get advise outwith the university block. This can be challenging. When I am at university for one of the 2 week blocks it is easier to get support from staff.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

My Qualification will allow me to have a broader perspective of the wider Savills business as I will not use my degree in my daily role. However, the degree is required in order to achieve my APC (when the time comes). The degree helps me to understand creating professional style reports that I am yet to have to complete in my daily role.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There are many extra curricular activities to get involved in. There are always charity events such as the big sleep out as well as sports such as netball, football and rugby to be involved in. I often tend networking events such as the Property Outlooks that are based in different locations around the country to gain a wider perspective of the market and what Savills do as a business.

Why?
Savills has a great work atmosphere with great people. I have been to several different offices on my travels all of which have been very welcoming. I have found my team to be great to work with and enjoy doing so daily. I feel supported in my position as an apprentice, while still being allowed to grow and have independence.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Savills?
Its not as scary as it seems. Go in with confidence! Believing in your ability to achieve is something I wish I had done sooner
