Overview of Experience

Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.

The insight involved sitting in two practice areas and engaging in a variety of tasks. This enabled me to get a good understanding of the trainee role and the life of a solicitor.
Sessions were held throughout the scheme that provided a good insight into each practice area and Stephenson Harwood. These sessions were a great opportunity to ask questions and to develop an understanding of the firm.

What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?

It was great to understand the career development of a trainee at Stephenson Harwood. Experiencing the variety of practice areas, range of work, and networks to be involved in helped me to better understand the firm and the opportunities offered to trainees and qualified solicitors. The scheme was also a great opportunity to gain an in-depth understanding of the firm culture.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have learned and developed teamwork, negotiation, and presentation skills.
Working in the practice areas enabled me to develop skills including organisation, research, communication, and legal analysis. My attention to detail was also developed by engaging in tasks.
The sessions that were organised also developed my innovative thinking and understanding of how a law firm operates.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

The culture at Stephenson Harwood was inclusive and friendly. Everybody was approachable and involved me in real work, which helped me to gain a good insight into the firm culture.
