Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
Taught classroom learning (theory) which is supported by weekly workshop hands on experience to reinforce learning. Great teachers with thorough understanding and experience working on aircraft.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I really enjoy learning about military aircraft, alongside a great team in the defence industry.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
From starting the course I had very minimal experience working with sheet metal and given the small class size (10 students), this has enabled me to gain valuable 1-1 time with tutors to increase confidence in the workshop. This also reflects in the classroom with good teacher to teacher ratio.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
Given first cohort, communication between college staff and Boeing could have been improved and aligned so that stakeholders are aware of who in regulating the course, expectations etc. However, generally speaking it has gone well. I would have personally have preferred more information to be available on pay expectations over time and timings of course finish etc given I previously left a secure engineering role and took risk to accept this role in a short space of time (thankfully it has worked out). It would be good to understand more on aviation industry as a whole, how training works in industry etc.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
Generally very good with communication and feel supported with any questions.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
lots of support and quite happy, for individuals who have no previously apprenticeship backgrounds it may be good to provide some more information in how apprenticeships are marked, how a portfolio is made etc. Students on the course are very helpful to support each other.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
Thorough understanding with real life examples of why particular things are important and all teachers are very helpful with questions.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
Once out of college in 6 months time and allocated to a base, I believe there are opportunities to join sports clubs.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Boeing UK to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Great opportunity provided, support is excellent and staff are very appreciative of students who have previous industry experience as engineers - lots of respect which is appreciated as an older student.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Boeing UK?
Just go for it!
