Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

My first year of the apprenticeship is mainly academic and involves preparing to pass my modules as well as completing hands on practical work in the aircraft hangar at ICAT.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I find it challenging but as a whole, I do enjoy my experience as an apprentice aircraft engineer.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have learnt numerous hand skills in the hangar workshop as well as organisational and social skills built amongst my peers.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

I find that everything on the course has been laid out clearly and accurately. My apprentice managers do an excellent job of keeping us updated.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
Support is constantly available if and when I need it however as my first year is mainly academic, I only really enquire for help from my college teachers.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

I receive ample support from my training provider. They are constantly available and are very useful in answering my enquiries.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I now have a base understanding of topics such as human factors as well as the overall structure of an aircraft which I feel are very important to my role.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

We have access to the CAVC (Cardiff and Vale college) which have a plethora of social activities, sports teams etc. Boeing also regularly host professional networking events.
