Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

- owning / managing spreadsheets
- team meetings
- meetings with agencies
- shadowing meetings with journalists
- taking minutes
- research tasks: researching podcast opportunities, publications, journalists
- reviewing interview notes: when the team have interviews with spokespeople and journalists I go through the recording and transcript to make sure it all makes sense and is grammatically correct
- occasionally supporting / managing product photoshoots
- once a quarter supporting my team managing coverage for financial results day (this also involves organising gift bags which gets sent to journalists and also sorting the back drop for broadcast interviews with tv media

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

its definitely different to what i expected as i didn't think i would be working in PR, but i've learned and developed so many skills i didn't think i would. also fortunate enough to have such a great team who are super supportive. would defiantly stay in PR / MR in the future despite originally not expecting to be working in this area

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

now i'm actually settled into the programme yes, however before joining everyone in my cohort (project management level 4) was not told we wouldn't necessarily be doing project management so it was definitely a surprise working in PR. but my course is very structured and my team know what they are doing and are well communicated with my course tutor / employer

How much support do you receive from your employer?

we have check in's from time to time and always answer emails when i have but I don't particularly need any support from them as I'm lucky that i have a great line manager and course tutor

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

we have monthly workshops which my tutor goes through all content, she sets us homework and always lets us know if there's any changes and when we have our next exam. she provides us with loads of recourses too. they are also super supportive of any learning difficulties and anything else.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

my team work in media relations and my qualification is in project management. my team also don't work on loads of projects so in terms of that it doesn't necessarily help but there's definitely parts which help me perform better like risk management

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

yes, we get the opp to work in development teams, like outreach or community and wellbeing. my one (community and wellbeing) means i can set up events for other apprentices, ips and grads which is so fun. there's also sports teams available which you can join and my function have socials which is great for networking. there's also other social events after work which are great for meeting other apprentices/ips/ grads

great learning opportunities and have learned so much from working here. everyone is so supportive and willing to help out. its also very social so its fun too !!
