I am a Project Management Degree Apprentice. Currently I am on a 6 month placement in Customer Service where I am working within the change team, working on change projects that have a positive impact on customer experience. I'm working on projects including making changes within the customer service system we use, communications to customers, and also improving and measuring data for targets and performance.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I really enjoy my programme. I love the flexibility of being able to do 6 different placements in any area of the business that I want (that's applicable to my scheme). Everyone who I have met so far has always gone the extra mile in making me feel involved and part of the business. I also find the academic side of things very interesting, and this is really taking my understanding of project to the next level. I've been exposed to some really useful projects and placements which as developed my learning.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have learnt a variety of skills in the last 6 months. Most importantly, I have learnt communication skills when networking and speaking to other employees which as helped me to connect to different people. I have learnt key skills such as time management, how to prioritise tasks, as well as skills used on internal projects such as using excel formulas when sorting data.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

Business wise, I believe the structure is excellent. I have defined time each week to work on my academic learning. My manager is very good at adding structure to what I do, such as organising regular catch ups. I have regular checking with the early careers team and mentors to ensure I am getting as much help and support that I can from the business. University wise, it is also very well organised. I get lectures released every Monday, and I have 2 workshop days approximately every 12 weeks - the plan for the whole year has been provided so it is easy to plan around what is happening. There is just as much support the University end as there is with my business.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I receive a lot of support from my employer if I require. From regular catch ups and check-ins each week with me team, to monthly one to one reviews with my mentor, manager and early careers team. My manager and the early careers team are always available for support if needed, and I certainly feel very supported in my role.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
As I mentioned earlier, I receive very good support from the University. My work based learning tutors and lecturers are always available for questions, and I have regular reviews and catch ups every 12 weeks. My Olly criticism is that because it is an online course, help isn't always available straight away.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

My qualification will really help me progress in my role. I am training to be a project manager, and therefore I am constantly doing placements that includes working on projects. My degree in Project Management will allow me to apply theory critically to projects, and it takes my learning to a whole new level.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Yes. At E.ON we have loads of employee networks such as LGBTQ+ network, or BAME Network. These networks are constantly organising events which everyone (no matter their background) are encouraged to take part in.
In addition to this, as a Degree Apprenticeship cohort we are involved in regular events such as Development days and Community days, where we all come together as a cohort and do something for thr community, or learn more about the business we operate in.

Why?
E.ON are unique in my experience of precious jobs. The culture is very open and everyone (no matter level) can speak to one another. Diversity and Inclusion wise they are fantastic with providing equal opportunities and promoting minorities including LGBTQ+, BAME, Disability, and Religious. Support from managers is fantastic, and there are so many opportunities available.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to E.ON UK?
First of all, showcase your previous experience and how this can be applied to the energy industry. Be passionate about sustainability. Be yourself in your interview, and don't worry about having grades/qualifications to back you up - it's all about past experiences and skills you have gained. Make sure you do some research into the company, look at company values and how they align with yours.
