Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
I am part of the design team where we get projects from customers and help to design a solution for their energy requirements. This is my first placement, and I will have many more throughout my apprenticeship. On a day-to-day basis, I work on CAD drawings for customers.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I enjoy it a lot, everyone has been very welcoming and it really makes a difference that we take on relatively small numbers, as you get much more focus on you, rather than being just a statistic in a large group.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Speaking in public, developing CAD skills and working in a team with professional engineers are the main skills I have gained/ developed.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
It is very well organised, especially with the University of Nottingham. I have one day a week which is dedicated to University work and people know not to ask me to do other work on that day, which means I can really focus on uni.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
We receive a lot of support, as we are relatively small groups of apprentices, it means a lot of the focus is on us as individuals, and there is a lot more support as they have a lot more time for us. We have regular catchups with our pastoral support too.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
They are very helpful if you have any enquiries and there is a lot of feedback sessions so we can suggest any improvements.(a lot of which they do act on from what I have seen). all lectures are recorded so it is easy to look back through, and the lecturers respond to teams messages if you cannot make the in person or online feedback sessions.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
So far, as I have only been here for 4 months, it is mainly getting up to speed with things, which is different at the moment for both University and work, but I know that there are work based projects in the future, which will of course be linked to our work.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
There are a lot of things we are encouraged to get involved in. I have only been here 4 months, but I have been to networking events, school visits and careers events, as well as community days where we go out and help people in the community, which is great for getting to know the other apprentices better.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend E.ON UK to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Everyone has been so welcoming and I am going to the university I wanted to go to anyway, but debt free (which is awesome). I have made some good friends as well, and you are eased into the workplace very well in my opinion, it is a big change, but you are given plenty of support if you need it.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to E.ON UK?
Be yourself, be as confident as you can in your interview and make sure you practice it. If you can have something about you that the interviewers will remember, you will stick in their mind. And if you aren't sure whether you want to apply or not, just apply... worst case you don't get it, but it is really good interview experience and you can only regret not applying if you don't apply.
