Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I'm assistant manager so I run shifts, sort cash out, make sure people have completed their training either on tap or for their apprenticeship. I also sort any repair that need logging or chasing up aswell as helping out in the kitchen as and when needed, I try to go where I'm needed to make the shift run smoothly.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I enjoyed doing my apprenticeship as I found my coach very welcoming and very supportive. I also had alot of work I had to do off the job with I found hard as I work full time 49hrs and have 2 children to take care of when I'm not working.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have developed new skills for my job role, as before I was assistant Manager I was a chef, so I have learnt how to cash up, open the pub, approved holidays, update rotas, running a shift, using the tills, eg refunds, booking taking payments, deposits redeeming offers. I am also in the process or learning how to run the cellar.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
I feel the apprenticeship is set out and structured for people that don't really have any other commitments outside or work, as you have to do so many hours a week on different tasks, I did find it hard to balance my time between doing this qualification and been a mum and an assistant Manager, but my mentor helped me get sorted.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
I get some support from my GM with my work, but the main support I receieved as I said previously was from my work coach. If I needed time out of work to sort my course work out my GM would do his best to get cover or give me some time off to complete what I needed to do.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
My training provider was AMAZING! He was always there to give me a bit of help or to get me the push I needed to get my work completed. He made sure I knew what was expected and how to complete the work if I didn't really understand the question or how it was worded.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
I feel more confident in myself that I can safely prepare food dishes created by my employer, run a kitchen shift and know more about provenance of the food we prepare and more information about calories, diabetes and other dietary needs of customers that may attend my work place for some good food.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
We sponsor the Ring o bells football team and some of the staff have also signed up for the team and play every Sunday all over. We also try and do charity work/fundraisers for past customers, ie we do a charity darts match every year for one customer who passed away, we are also sorting a pool knockout for another customer that passed earlier this year.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Greene King to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I love the benefits. We get 33% staff discount to use at any Greene King. We also get out food 50% when working. We get discounts at a lot of high street shops. Greene King also do their bit to support Macmillan Cancer charity which is close to a lot of people's hearts as there's someone everyone knows that's been affected by cancer in their lives.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Greene King?
Be yourself, show you care about our customers and the service we provide instead of thinking about what you are getting paid. Be a team player. Make yourself standout from the rest. There is always room for progression if you can progress within your business. There are opportunities all over the country with Greene King as they have so many different brands under their umbrella.
