Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Talking with Tradesmen and providing them with the goods required for their work. My job includes serving customers, offering promotions, upgrading their profile, offering Trade cards, offering tea and coffees, help putting delivery away, stock moves, stock counts, shop floor replenishes, making quotes, offering price matches, and general tidying up.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
As someone who has learning difficulties, I can find it difficult to stay focused for long periods of times. Luckily with our meetings there are breaks which just by taking these fifteen minute breaks can help me reset and refocus. If it is a subject I am not familiar with I do take a keen interest.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have learnt more about general policies and procedures such as general data protection, offering price matches, internal customers and external customers. I have learnt about Strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats. Personal Development plans and setting realistic targets whether they are short term or long term for myself and other staff.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
It is nice to have monthly meetings which means giving us one month to complete all our tasks at hand, however as I am a part time member of staff it can be difficult finding the time to complete these tasks, especially if they are handed out to us quite late.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
Again being part time it is very difficult to get the time in to accomplish the work, I am interrupted to cover breaks or to cover tills when busy. It can be a bit frustrating as I only do a six hour day compared to full timers who have eight hours
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
I can't really fault my training provider, my only complaint is that my emails or text messages are often ignored so I now phone my trainer up and I get the answers that I need almost every time immediately. Things are explained well to me and are giving examples to help me understand further.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
It has been very useful as I have learnt more about for example general data protection as I did not realise about asking customer for their permission to use their account instead of just bringing their account up ready to go. I have learnt more about internal and external customers.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
They do some events such but as a part time member of staff with childcare issues it can be difficult for me to get involved. I do hope in the near future I will go to other branches to experience how other stores may work as it can differ from mine.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Screwfix to a friend?
Yes
Why?
The work life balance for me personally works really well. Any issues they are resolved efficiently, the pay is well which is a bonus as the cost of living is terrible at the moment. Staff are friendly and the work itself is a varied role which I like as it keeps me busy.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Screwfix?
Make sure you are a people person, good customer service is essential working at Screwfix. Having a little bit of knowledge is not vital but it could help, but it is very easy to learn about multiple products and information when working for Screwfix, I have learnt a lot in just 2 years.
