Overview of Experience

Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.

We had taken part in a mock ADR Negotiation exercise; We had lectures by various partners who explained corporate case studies they themselves had been involved in. Additionally we had two departmental careers fairs' where we met with representatives from a variety of practice areas. Most crucially we spent an afternoon shadowing a trainee from a particular department.

What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?

It was incredibly insightful to understand better how the vacation scheme and training contract at HSF works first hand whilst also getting tips from current trainee's as well as graduate recruitment on how we can improve our chances of getting onto one of these.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have most definitely improved my commercial awareness, the insight given by the scheme in this aspect was incredible. I have also built up my communication skills through communicating with a vast variety of people from a diverse variety of backgrounds and at different stages in their legal careers.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

The company culture was incredibly pleasant and this was definitely what stood out to me the most. Incredibly welcoming of all backgrounds and faiths.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy the insight?

I enjoyed the insight to a significant extent. The insight into Herbert Smith Freehills' was invaluable in terms of the day to day work of a trainee, to experiencing a flavor of what different departments are like and meeting with partners and having them present some of their most groundbreaking cases.
