My role as assistant manager covers:
Opening and closing the store
daily banking
rota planning
serving customers through the day
stock taking
stock replenishment
colleague reviews & difficult conversations
dealing with customer complaints
monthly and yearly archiving
weekly meetings
meeting deadlines for projects
quarterly catalogue changes
organisation with tasks and staff
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

One of the positive experiences I had with the programme was the dedicated one to one conversations I could have with my coach when I needed help.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have learnt new skills through being with Toolstation for a number of years, I also learnt how to handle certain situations differently through the apprenticeship.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

It was quite well organised although being expected to attend 3 hour webinars on a working day with no extra staff was very hard, meaning I had to try and catch up whenever I had the time.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I did receive support from my store manager but no support from the company itself. I had to do a lot of work in my own time at home as we simply did not get given any extra hours for me to do the amount of hours expected. My manager could free up a day here or half a day there but he was only given a certain budget that could not be exceeded and if someone went sick I would then fall behind.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

I had plenty of support from my training provider when I needed it and he was very patient with me when I was working through personal issues.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I do feel it has given me more confidence in my role and for the future.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

We run charity football matches and have other charity events that I get involved with.

If you have a good team that work well together the days go by quickly and the job itself is easy. You just have to be organised and gel with the team.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Travis Perkins plc?
It is a physical job and the hours start early, but it is rewarding when you get tasks complete in good time.
