Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
Performing experiments to produce protein crystals and to assess binding of drug compounds in protein crystal structures
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I very much do enjoy my programme. Doing an apprenticeship was not my first option, instead I just tried applying for practice for university interviews. I got accepted and thought I'd give it a try - And I have never regretted staying since.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Yes, always a chance for me to develop skills and my manager does support me through the process of learning a new skill, for example learning other biophysical techniques

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
It is very clearly structured. MMU are clear on the dates of released content and are consistent with webinars. This meant I was able to get my manager to agree on a day to focus on my degree on set days in the week.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I receive plenty of support at my company. Not only do I have a manager who supports me and checks up on me often, but I also have an apprentice buddy who has been through the process and is able to provide help and answered concerns i had, especially when starting initially.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
There is support provided by my training provider. honestly speaking I haven't felt the need to use the supports, but students on the course are reminded frequently of the support available.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
Honestly, its a bit weird doing a chemical science course whilst working at a Structural Biology department. But it works! I'm able to make links between the theory I learn on my course and the work I do. Also there are specific modules that seem directly related to what I do at work such as drug discovery or x-ray diffraction.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
There are developing and networking event held by my workplace. The apprentices often have get togethers.
