Overview of the Experience

Please give an overview of what your virtual experience involved:
4/5
The virtual work experience involved a group of people for different sectors of Siemens giving lectures about their day to day life and also a briefing about how they reached that path. We could the apply the knowledge obtained on different quizzes or activities, like interactive games about he environment.
To what extent did you enjoy your virtual experience?
4/5
Overall it was a quite fun experience, with live sessions to hear from Siemens’ own people’s paths. The only part that I found that could be improved was the extent of how interactive the events were, as I think sometimes it could get a bit tedious, so more of these would make it more fun.
How well organised was your virtual experience?
5/5
Very well organised. There was a clear schedule with timings for virtual sessions and deadlines for the final section. The rest of the programme, like articles, were easily accessible, so it was easy to see what was still not completed and what was. It was also easy to understand and manage.
How much did your virtual experience help you in deciding on your future career path?
4/5
Although I really enjoyed the programme, it did help me realise that potentially the energy sector is not for me, and although this is now what the programme was meant to do, I do believe that it was helpful when deciding what I wanted to do in the future by narrowing down the field.
Were you paid or reimbursed for this experience?
1/5
No, as it was a virtual work experience for high school students hosted by SpringPod, the experience was not paid. However, the rewards from the experience are much more important at this age than getting paid a minimum wage for our learning, which I believe was not necessary or required.

Skills Development

What training and skills development did you learn from your virtual experience?
5/5
We were taught what skills are good for a job in the engineering/manufacturing industry were Siemens is in. Some of these were communication and team-working. It was very well explained and shown how relevant these are for a day to day job to be successful. In addition, these are also transferable skills that can be applied to other jobs or aspects of life.

Company Culture

How much did you learn about the company culture and what it would be like to work there?
5/5
I learnt quite a bit about the company. The company’s own employees talked to us about their paths to the company and it was very helpful to know that not all paths are the same, and that there are a lot of non-conventional ways to get into fields like these.
Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees?
4/5
We met some of the company’s employees through virtual sessions, were they explained their own life paths to that position in the company. It was very nice to know of the unconventional ways to get into the company, such as degree apprenticeships or graduate ones. There wasn’t a chance to network with other people because it was an online event.

Recommendations and Advice

Would you recommend Siemens to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Because Siemens seems to be a very welcoming company. There are also many different areas that you can work in, so there is almost a job for everyone in any field. It is also good for people who like the office job, but also for those who prefer to mix it up a bit and also have some mix in the day to day work.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Siemens?
Due to the nature of the work experience, many people can carry these out. Therefore if you are carrying out one of these virtual work experiences, I would say definitely do so and make the most of it as you can, as every advice you are given is helpful later on in life.
