Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
I am a bus driver for Stagecoach north east. On a day to day basis it is my responsibility to keep myself, passengers and pedestrians safe by following the Highway Code and my companies policies and procedures. I start off by signing on for my duty, then I pick my bus up, do my first half of my shift, come back to the depot for my break, go back out then I am done.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I enjoy my programme, especially the work shops with Guy Bavarage. I feel like I learn a lot whilst on these work shops as Guy makes them interactive and is a very good teacher. I also like my job so it goes hand in hand very well. It is a great opportunity.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have learnt some valuable life skills and professional skills whilst being a bus driver for Stagecoach. Since starting my role I have became a much better and safer driver. I am more patient and considerate on the road. My customer service has also improved as I deal with customers of all backgrounds on a day to day basis.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
The programme is structured very well as I have a mix between working and learning, both of which I enjoy. I am entitled to off the job learning on which I am on track to pass. From day one I could see how professional and well structured this programme was going to be.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I receive a lot of support from my employer when I need it. I have a very good relationship with my manager, the training team, and Guy, which is nice and very important to have in the work place. Overall I am very happy with the support as I know people are there when I need guidance.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
Guy Bavarage is a very good teacher and very knowledgeable. Whenever any body needs help he is always straight there with support. As I said on an earlier question, I am on track to complete my apprenticeship on time. I enjoy the days I am off the road to learn.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
The work shops we go through helps me learn more about my company and relevant information I need to know in the future. The work shops we go through focus on customer service and my companies procedures and policies which is important to know. We also cover the Highway Code.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
There are always charity night outs organised by one of my colleagues which is for a great cause and also helps with work place relationships. There is also a football team that has been started up by some of our colleagues which is important as we can get fit whilst getting to know eachother better.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Stagecoach UK to a friend?
Yes
Why?
It is a fantastic place to work and no two days are the same. You will always come across different situations, be it on the road or not ( some negative, some positive). Everybody gets along and there are never any problems around the depot. I feel comfortable talking to anyone in the depot.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Stagecoach UK?
The tips I would give to new starters and people applying for Stagecoach UK, would be to take on board advice given by drivers. When I first started, I done this and got to learn the job inside and out and how to deal with different situations. It is a great place to work!
