Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

4/5
I work in a control room where my main role is to keep bus services running when there are issues on bus routes, for example, road closures due to RTC's, roadworks etc. I have to keep depots, drivers and all other staff informed of incidents and carry out dynamic risk assessments before diverting services. I have to send accurate information to the digital engagement teams, who keep customers up to date with any service disruptions.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

5/5
The level 3 Team Leader Apprenticeship course is very interesting and I get to shadow Depot Managers, Performance Managers and other roles and learn parts of the business I would not usually have time or an opportunity to do in within my normal role.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

5/5
Yes. I have had a good insight into the Depot Managers and Service Performance role. I have been learning about Depot Budgets and how the company saves money on fines from TFGM then there is a breach within our contracts. I have learnt small bits from many different departments but this has given me a great insight overall.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

5/5
The programme is well organised and structured. My tutor is very knowledgeable and supportive and spends enough time with me to understand exactly what is expected from my course work.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

5/5
I am given a minimum of one day per week to attend my online courses of go to any of the depots in Manchester and Merseyside to shadow Managers. The support has been outstanding and it has allowed me to be ahead of my expected progress.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

5/5
The support from my training provider has been wonderful. I have a tutor and she has always been available if I have any questions or concerns. She is calm, understanding and very helpful. She has guided me through this course and have been very reassuring, especially when I first started the course and it was new to me.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

5/5
I am getting hands on experience most weeks and the weeks I am not in depots, I am learning lots about the team leader role through online courses and support from my tutor.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

1/5
No, there are no extra-curricular activities for me to get involved with.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Stagecoach UK to a friend?

Yes

Why?

I have worked for Stagecoach for 24 years. From the very start, they have supported me and given me a career, not just a job. There are always opportunities to further your career at Stagecoach and I have always found them to be very supportive. They pride themselves on safety and they definitely look after their staff. Stagecoach are always looking for feedback from staff and customers, so they can be even better.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Stagecoach UK?

Be prepared to work shifts as the Stagecoach is a 24 hour run business. You must have a safety first way of thinking and be customer focused. Stagecoach is a place where you can start at the bottom and work your way up to the very top (The Managing Director is an example of this, as are many Depot Managers) Bus drivers are on a good rate of pay, and there is no pressure to move up the ladder if you want to stay as a bus driver. Stagecoach are great for Graduates wishing to start a career within public transport, and many graduates have gone very far with Stagecoach. If you start a career with Stagecoach, you really could have a job for life!
