My role at Siemens is an apprentice training to become a control engineer. I complete tasks set from my managers which could include testing, configuration, document creation and many other jobs within smart infrastructure.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I enjoy the apprenticeship program at Siemens highly. I feel there is a good life to work balance with many different opportunities and ways for me to develop and grow throughout my career and in life. I enjoy the work I am doing and the people i'm working with.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Yes, I have developed my electrical engineering knowledge within protection. I am learning vital business workings and how i can best help out within the company.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

It is reasonably well structured so that the apprenticeship allows me to be in control of my own progression and learning whilst being taught by colleagues who know what they are doing and can train me to the best of their ability.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I receive ample support from my manager and the people responsible for the apprenticeships at Siemens. there are 5 and 10 weekly reviews for progression and well being. these are also tied in with growth talks with my manager which are more focused on my progression within the field and on understanding Siemens processes.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

The training provider Seta provide you with all the tools and teachings to be able to pass your qualification. As well as lessons on the content for the assignments there also there to guide you in the correct direction.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I feel more understanding of technical knowledge pairs well with the hands on knowledge that is provided while working. Having a solid base of knowledge when coming to work at an electrical engineering company is vital for your success. Keeping in the loop with maths and electrical maths is a good idea when working for Siemens.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Yes, there are many different things that you can get involved with, including a five a side football team and many work events that crop up through the year.

Would you recommend Siemens to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I would recommend this apprenticeship because my experience with it so far has been good and I want to see how far I can go within the company whilst having my higher learning completely paid for.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Siemens?
Be yourself. If you are applying for the same apprenticeship position then they don't want or need you to have a comprehensive knowledge of the company as it would defeat the purpose of the apprenticeship. They look for someone with a drive to succeed and willingness to learn.
