Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
My role as a plant operative is to start up and shut down my wet plant, I also and direct contact when we get dredgers in, I’m also a shovel driver where I have to load lorry’s the hopper and stock pike out materials, I’m also on podp training course
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
The course is very good, it gives an insight of all aspects within the tarmac industry, it would be nice to get away a bit earlier on the last day as we all have a long drive home or would rather be put up in a hotel for the night

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
On my course I’ve leaned loads that I didn’t know. As I’m new to this industry it’s been a big insight of what tarmac is all about and the things they need, over the courses I’ve taken something away with me everytime i can take back to my site

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
Very well organised, it’s fun and enjoyable. We all work great as a team and always have a little laugh while on the courses, tarmac have definitely delivered when they decided to build this state of the art training park. They offer a range of training activities as well
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
It all depends on staff numbers. We’re we are a small team most of the time there’s always someone off on holiday, so finding the times to do my course work can be tricky. Saying that they always do try to give me the time I need w
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
Loads of support Kirin is always messaging to ask how I am and how I’m getting on. If I do get stuck she’s always on the other end of the phone to ask any questions. With mirin’s help I’m able to concentrate more on getting my course work done.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
It’s going to help loads, after my training. And I’ve passed my nvq I’ll be qualified in nearly all areas of tarmac. I just need to be signed off by my manager or supervisor to then be competent to carry out other aspects in tarmac.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
We always make time once every 3 months to go out together as a work group. Just to chill out and have a laugh, last month we went to watch Leicester rugby team play Bristol bees which was enjoyable
