Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
As an apprentice software developer, my role is varied and touches on various aspects and teams of the business. This includes helping with the maintenance of our websites and learning and promoting accessible web development throughout the business.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I really enjoy the programme. Aside from all the skills I have (and continue to) develop, I feel that there's a really well-established network of apprentices and graduates throughout Unilever who are always happy to help out – or even just hang out and have a chat.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have learnt a wide variety of skills (both technical and soft) due to the exposure I've had to different teams. This includes: accessible testing/web development, data manipulation with excel, presentation/public speaking, communication etc.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
The programme is very well structured, and I feel that I've got a great balance between work and studies.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
The support at Unilever is great. The team is always there to help out (even with apprenticeship-related things) and there's a great network of apprentices across the business who are all on different stages of the journey and happy to help out in any way they can.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
I receive a lot of support from Multiverse. One of the best ways I am supported is through a personal coach who is there to help me out with literally anything I need – study-related or otherwise.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
I feel that my qualification through Multiverse has definitely helped with performing better at my role. I had a 12-week bootcamp at the beginning where I was studying full time with Multiverse along with other apprentices from different companies. I feel that this was great for providing a foundation for me to be able to dive straight into my role.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
There are always extra-curricular activities going on at Unilever – just recently there was a charity football match that I was able to attend where two teams from different office locations played against each other in a friendly match. Everyone is really welcoming and social!

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Unilever to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I'd say that Unilever is a great place to be as an apprentice. The exposure to different parts of the business gives you the opportunity to learn a variety of skills – not just technical ones outlined by your apprenticeship KSBs (Knowledge, Skills & Behaviours).
Another really nice advantage of this is that if you're somebody who doesn't know exactly what you want to do career-wise, you'l have opportunities to explore different skills and roles throughout the company – in a technical capacity and in a business capacity.
Overall, I would definitely recommend an apprenticeship (or any job really) in Unilever. People are really welcoming and accommodating here, and I feel that it's a great opportunity to broaden your horizons and hone in on exactly what you enjoy doing while having the support you need throughout the journey.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Unilever?
As well as tailoring your CV to the technical skills expected of the specific apprenticeship you're applying for, show that you care and are passionate about your work and what you are doing. Unilever is all about helping people, and that includes things on a bigger scale like sustainability and accessibility.
