Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

On a day-to-day basis, I am having to install broadband and TV services for customers, complete site surveys where I have to make sure that customers have a signal coming in and they are ready for their installation day.
I also carry out fault-finding tasks where we have to identify possible reasons for loss of connection on broadband and tv services.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I can't complain, so far so good. I met a bunch of people I generally get on well with experienced colleagues who are very helpful and fellow apprentices who are going through the same journey as I do.
In terms of the job is different every day, there are no two days the same. You can encounter different challenges in each job and attend jobs where you feel like it is easy as a walk in the park.

Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I am having to involve myself in upselling customers and lead generation too. The company does offer great incentives if you generate leads and they sign up for the services so sales are definitely a skill I am refreshing and finding new ways of incorporating to my job. Furthermore, I am able to gain and develop my customer service skills in a new setting as my role is primarily a customer-facing role.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

I am getting notified well in advance of online training sessions or practical training. So it gives me time to inform my manager and plan ahead. Regarding the teaching is normally very structured and detailed to the topic we are learning about. Some have video-based learning materials some have like a slide show but generally speaking the information is easy to digest.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

My manager is very supportive he has helped me out by chasing up a couple of things and trying to solve some issues I am having with my PDA. I can approach him with any questions I have and he tries to answer them most of the time and my colleagues are also a great help.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

On this, I would say it's still early days I haven't actually had much to do with the training providers I know that they do jump on our training sessions and receive reports about our progress but I personally have not yet had to go through much training with them just yet.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

During my induction with the company, it was explained that we were hired and screened due to previous experiences based on customer service, sales, and technical skills, etc... I have already possessed a great deal of customer service and sales experience through previous roles so for me it's just having to find the right tools to work with. other than that I think I have to master the technical training and I ll be OK.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There are but unfortunately, I haven't had the chance to attend them yet but I believe my team will be having a little team bonding activity which I am looking forward to. I missed one last week due to personal reasons but it would have been nice to go and meet some of my colleagues from different branches.

Why?
I like the atmosphere and it's just clear to see that there are opportunities for those who want to move up the ladder. for me, it is still early to say but I do feel like they look after me as an employee and that my work is appreciated.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Virgin Media O2?
Pay attention to the scenario questions and base your preparation for your interview on those questions and desired skills required for the company from there onwards just work harder than the rest and you be alright. Of course it depends on the role you apply for too but try to see what skills you have and how they can benefit the company.
