Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
As a network engineer apprentice, my work primarily involves upgrading outdated network solutions in customer data centers and office sites. I also survey customer sites to plan future network upgrades and installations. Additionally, I work with cloud solutions to remotely configure network equipment and coordinate with field engineers for on-site installation.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I find great enjoyment in my network engineer program as it offers me the opportunity to continuously learn new skills and work collaboratively within a team. Embracing the challenge of upgrading outdated network solutions and surveying customer sites for future upgrades fuels my passion for innovation and problem-solving. Additionally, the hybrid nature of working with cloud solutions while at home (home based) allows me to remotely configure network equipment and lead field engineers in successful on-site installations.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Network Infrastructure: Understanding and configuring network devices, such as routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless access points.
Network Protocols: Familiarity with protocols like TCP/IP, VLANs, OSPF, BGP, DHCP, and DNS, as well as their configurations and troubleshooting.
Cloud Networking: Experience working with cloud platforms such as Meraki Dashboard, Azure, including configuring virtual networks, security groups, load balancers, and VPN connections.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
2/5
There were areas in need of improvement regarding the organization of the program. Some aspects of the program were well-structured, including clear objectives and a thoughtful curriculum design. However, there were some challenges with the Canvas platform, as it presented difficulties in navigation and could benefit from updates we other students agree as well. Additionally, there were instances where the information provided by the college was unclear, leading to some confusion.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I received substantial support from my employer throughout my journey. They provided me with valuable guidance, mentorship, and resources to enhance my learning and development as a network engineer. I would update my line manager with any progress towards my dissertation and he supported my work and advise who to speak to within the business to help towards my research.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
I received ample support from my training provider, while I felt confident in my abilities and didn't often need assistance, it was reassuring to know that help was readily available if needed. Whenever I encountered challenges with assignments or had specific questions, my tutor would willingly set aside time to provide guidance and support.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
My training qualifications have significantly contributed to my performance in my role. They have provided me with a strong understanding of essential network topics and business strategies, enabling me to effectively navigate complex situations. This knowledge has proven instrumental in improving my overall performance and enhancing my ability to contribute meaningfully to my organization's objectives.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
At Vodafone, there are abundant opportunities for extra-curricular involvement that go beyond regular work responsibilities. Throughout my three years at the company, I have actively participated in a range of social events and activities. These events serve as a fantastic platform for meeting new colleagues from different departments and building valuable connections within the organization.
