Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
Day to day I work on research into enamel health testing out different products on how effective they are at protecting teeth. Every day is different and I have been able to carry out a range of different tests independently I never thought I would be able to do while studying.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I thoroughly enjoy the programme as I am getting the best of both worlds. I am getting a degree in which I do not have to pay for and I am also learning on the job which means I have more experience than those who just attended university and I am learning more.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have learnt many skills like working independently, using my own knowledge on developing existing and new methods, work on new exciting projects and also work within a team to progress. I have also developed many learning skills through both my job and through university like time management and organisation.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
The programme is structured as we know what modules we will be learning at what times of the year and are able to plan in advance how we decide to learn the materials we are given. Things like exam dates aren't fully given in advance which is a disadvantage as you cannot plan things like holidays as you are unsure when the exams will be.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I recieve a lot of support from my employer. Not only does my line manager support me on the projects I am working on within work but he also allows mw a lot of time to study especially in busy periods like exam season which is really helpful and useful.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
2/5
The training provider provide resources for the course and are available to answer any questions but the resources given can lack context and make learning difficult as they can add a lot of unnecessary information. There are limited live webinars but most of the materials provided are pre recorded webinars or previous lectures from the full time course.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
I believe the qualification helps me have an understanding of the work I do. Doing a chemistry degree helps me understand the chemistry behind the tests I am running within my workplace and allow me to have a greater insight that I wouldn't have without doing the degree along side.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
There are many extra curricular activities within my workplace and there is something for everyone. There are things such as a choir, acting, running and many other clubs which are available to all employees. There is also an on site gym available to the employees which is very useful to many.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Unilever to a friend?
Yes
Why?
The company are very diverse, accepting and welcoming to all employees. I feel comfortable working there and constantly feel supported by those around me to become a better employee. I have made many friends for life through working at unilever and have developed as a person more than I would have imagined.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Unilever?
Be yourself in the interview and try to think creatively and out of the box. Do your research into the company and the role you are applying for. Most importantly is to relax as it is a very stressful day and just allow yourself to have fun during the process.
